Pop Of Color
Lately I have been getting asked how to choose the color of socks to wear with a suit or casual ensembles. I come from a generation where we were taught that you should always match the color of your sock to the color of your trousers. Sadly, men of my generation find it hard sometimes to break that rule of thumb. I’m here to tell you it’s time to retire that old rule and venture out.
In the age of the millennium, it is very common to add a pop of color when choosing your socks and it’s fun! There are variety of options to choose from – one way you can do this is by choosing a color that matches your shirt. This works when you are wearing something other than white. If you are wearing a striped shirt, then select the color of the stripe as your sock color. It doesn’t have to be an exact color match, but close enough that they look like they’re from the same color family.
Another option, which I prefer, is to select socks that match the color of my necktie or pocket square. It’s logical since your necktie is usually an accent color to your ensemble. So why not expand on that and use that color for your socks too? One company out of London, Pantherella, offers a wide array of colors, patterns and stripes. Their website is being updated but you can also find them at Gilt, Nordstrom, or Mr. Porter. So take the leap and add a pop of color when choosing your socks. You will be pleasantly surprised with the compliments you will receive. Remember, looking and feeling good is what matters.
